165 (185, 200, 220) yards [151 (169, 183, 201) m] fingering weight yarn required for Version 1 (beanie); 250 (275, 305, 330) yards [229 (251, 279, 302) m] fingering weight yarn required for Version 2 (watchcap)
Version 1 (beanie): 1 (1, 1, 2) skeins; Version 2 (watchcap): 2 skeins Hudson + West Co. Weld (70% American Merino wool, 30% American Corriedale wool; 200 yards [183 m]/50 grams); photographed in colors Juniper (beanie) and Lake (watchcap)

GAUGE 
36 stitches & 42 rows = 4″ [10 cm] in 1x1 rib on Size A needles, after blocking
One 16-stitch repeat of chart = 1.75” [4.5 cm] wide on Size A needles, after blocking

SUGGESTED NEEDLES 
Size A (for main fabric): US 2.5 [3.0 mm]: 16” [40 cm] circular and double-pointed needles.
Size B (for optional tubular cast on): US 2 [2.75 mm]: 16” [40 cm] circular needle.
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

DIFFICULTY 
Intermediate: Skills required include cabling with a cable needle; decreasing; optional tubular cast on; circular knitting; chart reading.
